About the Author
Dr. Francine L. Hernandez has a doctorate in pastoral care and counseling. She is a board-certified pastoral counselor, chaplain, and clinical pastoral educator with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy. For the past twelve years, she has trained ministers and lay people in the art of self-awareness. She is the organizer of the “I'm Just Saying Women's Retreat.” These retreats are geared toward helping women discover untapped power of personal transformation through a narrative approach. Her dissertation thesis is entitled: “Breaking the stigma: Embracing mental health and empowering the congregation by creating an awareness of the need for a compassionate ministry.”

A Spiritual Journey

This Book, is a great motivator, a must read. It captured so much of my life paths, from childhood to adulthood. Life works in mysterious ways, and we we may not always follow the path that we have intended to, but we will always end up exactly where we are suppose to be.And sometimes in order to get to our desired outcome, we need to navigate our way through the storm and hold onto the only thing we have at the time-Blind Faith,that everything will work out in the end. Allowing others to Define you :Being judged by your physical attributes as an adult; in a society that constantly strive for perfection, is hard enough, but understanding those judgements as a little girl, can be quite a challenge. I quickly learned as I went through life is that we all encounter many people along the way who will attempt to tear us down and break our spirit.It is truly up to us to decide how we allow others to make us feel and whether or not we allow them to shape us into a person we are not. The Safety Pin has been a Great source of connection to the power and presence of God for me. There is no place where God does not exist and no place where He exists less or more.I can truly say, this book hit home, and has been an inspiration for me.

This book is a must read. While its major focus is on the emotional and spiritual healing of women, it is a gift to everyone. Dr, Hernandez skillfully educates the reader on basic strategies from compassionate pastoral care. Her references are mainly from Christian and Jewish scriptures. Nevertheless, her words are meant for all humanity. It is rare that a writer can give clarity to challenges of applying clinical techniques to both psychology and theology, well done
