A must-have for the LA library

I took a chance on this one, and I was thoroughly surprised. This book is completely laid out in detail start to finish, everything you need, just like the outline shows. I am using this to study for the LARE, and I'm shocked that this isn't listed as a resource book, nor was it used in my professional practice class at university. I would highly recommend it to students and emerging professionals wanting to round-out their understanding of the LA profession and the legal side of the office, as well professionals wanting to start your own business. So much content, great book for the money.

A essential companion to most Nursing Foundation text book.

At first I thought I had the necessary skills in critical thinking, yet the fact is that such a skill for Nursing is complex and would benefit students should there is a guide that breakdown all of its components for proper assimilation. Through this well written book which detailed the steps and all their logical sequences, it had deepen my critical thinking ability for professional Nursing beyond what was offered by the Nursing Fundamental text book. It covers the basic five steps of Nursing Process and its application from care plan creation to delegation. Full of insights for both inside and outside the clinical setting. And as a first-time Nursing student like myself, I would highly recommend this book.

Great Purchase!

This is a practical guide to Critical Thinking. It is written in a clear and straightforward manner, which I found to be a breath of fresh air, and very helpful in learning how to be a better critical thinker. As a working nurse, I find the field is becoming more complex, which requires strong critical thinking skills. Although I do have good critical thinking skills I have developed from my experiences, I wanted them to be stronger. I purchased this book in hopes of doing so, and find that I am learning a lot from it! I would recommend this to novice and expert alike! A really good buy!

About the Author
SUZAN L. JACKSON is the Business Development Manager of Environmental Services at Excel Partnership, Inc., which provides training and consulting services to assist companies in implementing management systems based on the ISO 9000, QS 9000, and ISO 14001 standards. Prior to joining Excel Partnership, Sue worked for DuPont in various roles, including process engineer, product quality coordinator, and ISO 9000/ISO 14000 consultant and trainer. While with DuPont, she assisted over twenty external companies in becoming registered to the ISO 9000 standards, led an effort to guide DuPont sites in integrating process safety and quality management systems, and helped to document corporate environmental management systems. She is an active member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee 207, which is developing the ISO 14000 series of environmental management standards. She holds a BS degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson University and has published numerous articles on the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 standards.

Joy Bauer is the author of seven books on food and nutrition, including two New York Times bestsellers. This book has a large list of disorders along with jump-starting menus and recipes to help the reader cope. This book became ever so much more valuable when I found out that Medicare does not consider Nutritionists or dieticians as being necessary to a person's well-being. One of the very best books on nutrition and its relationship to health wellness I have ever found.

This book has plenty of recipes for all kinds of health and wellness problems -- everything from dental issues to heart disease and diabetes. I bought this book with the cholesterol and diabetes recipes in mind but there is a lot more here. Clear and easy to understand.

About the Author

Elmore Leonard wrote more than forty books during his long career, including the bestsellers Raylan, Tishomingo Blues, Be Cool, Get Shorty, and Rum Punch, as well as the acclaimed collection When the Women Come Out to Dance, which was a New York Times Notable Book. Many of his books have been made into movies, including Get Shorty and Out of Sight. The short story "Fire in the Hole," and three books, including Raylan, were the basis for the FX hit show Justified. Leonard received the Lifetime Achievement Award from PEN USA and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. He died in 2013.

More Western Action from Elmore Leonard!

This is the third collection of Leonard short stories to be culled from his hardcover COMPLETE WESTERN STORIES OF ELMORE LEONARD. The seven stories in this book were published between 1952 to 1956.

To be frank, other reviewers have been more fulsome in their praise of Leonard's western stories. I think his stories are good, sometimes very good but rarely what I would term excellent. They are too short, too lacking in grit to win me over completely.

Having said that, the stories in this collection are nicely done, workmanlike tales of a cowardly cavalryman who winds up winning a Medal of Honor, a hardscrabble farm couple who, working together, triumph over desperados, a search for a Lost Dutchman mine and so on. The longest story - 'The Captives' - is the best in the bunch. Leonard has space to fill out the characters and details, which make for a well-told story.

I bought the book because it contains the story 'Three-Ten to Yuma,' one of my favorite western movies. I wanted to see how the source material compared to the movie. In this case the movie was better since the screenwriter supplied a nice twist at movie's end that elevated the story from a routine oater to something else.

In any case, whether you are a confirmed Leonard fan or not, you will enjoy the tales in this book.

Some Great Little Stories

I bought this for "3:10 to Yuma," after seeing the most recent version of the film and then the Glenn Ford version (which is now my favorite), and it was interesting to see what a simple story inspired both films, and how the tale grew in the telling (the short story begins at the hotel!). But I ended up enjoying most of these short Western gems and appreciating how well Leonard crafts his tales with grit and humor and the pure desire to entertain.

About the Author
Ismaiel Aldean is an Iraqi native who qualified from Baghdad Medical School before completing his Surgical training in the United Kingdom. There he met his Irish wife Mary and the two returned to Iraq to start their lives together, living there for 12 years. During those years, Aldean built his own hospital and was directly involved in the vicious eight-year Iraq-Iran war as a leading surgeon on the front line, where he dealt with some of the most horrific medical cases and witnessed the human tragedy of war. Due to his position in society, he interacted with top political leaders, including Saddam Hussein. These encounters gave him a rare insight into the unknown side of Saddam’s personality and the positive impression he left on the dictator was eventually the reason he made it out alive. Aldean stated that, after receiving a tip from a member of the government in 1990, he and his family left Iraq unaware of why they were being advised to leave. It was not until they landed in the U.K. that the invasion of Kuwait was announced in the media and the realization that they would never return struck home. Aldean spent the following years rebuilding a life for his family and worked at Trafford General Hospital, Manchester, for 13 years before retiring in 2010. Aldean was appointed as colorectal surgeon in 1997, served as divisional director of surgery for nine years and was awarded seven Clinical Excellence Awards for his work. During his time in Manchester, he was also appointed tutor and examiner at Manchester Medical School and examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Scotland.

A remarkable story offering a fascinating insight not only into Ismaiel's family life but also into that of the Iraqi people under the eventual ruthless dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. The reality of war, highlighted through case history examples, depicts not only the expertise of the medical staff under extreme conditions but also the resilience and courage of the injured. This story of passion and concern for family, friends and patients, from the days of privilege through to the days during which fear permeated under Hussein's stronghold on the Iraqi people, must have presented the author with heart-wrenching moments of recall when writing this well documented narrative.

An absolute must!

Being of Iranian origin and a surgical trainee I was naturally very interested and drawn to this book and I have to say that it was an absolutely incredible read!
The book tells the accounts of one mans experiences of war time Iraq whilst working as a general surgeon. Once I'd picked it up, I couldnt put it down. A truely compelling read that gives incredible insight into the struggles of man during war time. The accounts are told beautifully and succinctly and take the reader on an emotional journey whilst exposing him/her to the true horrors of war and the nature of man, both good and evil. Thoroughly recommend this!

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

The book gives an intimate insight into Iraq and the character of Saddam Hussein that brings a new dimension to understanding the events and history of that country since Saddam Hussein came to power.

It is also an easy and very enjoyable read. I was sorry when it came to an end!
