Its contents are based on classical Hebrew prose, but some account is also taken of the deviations in later prose and poetry. In this new edition English translations have been provided for all Hebrew phrases and sentences, and the bibliography has been expanded.

A good, inexpensive reference work

Reference work and inexpensive are seldom found together when speaking of quality materials on Biblical Hebrew, but Williams' work is well worthy of such a title. This short paperback covers the syntax of nouns, verbs, particles and clauses, discussing the basic syntactical functions of each. The examples, though sometimes unclear, are sufficient, and specific Scripture passages can be referenced with the index provided in the back. Perhaps of greatest practical value in this work is the index of particles and prepositions located on the last page. It is difficult to find a good discussion of particles and prepositions outside of major reference grammars, so this is a welcome addition.

This gem is easy on the wallet, unintimidating and useful. After you've struggled through some Hebrew Bible passages and consulted this and other reference grammars, read this one cover-to-cover and then you'll have an easier time reading the others.

Cheap, Excellent Syntax book

Students of any language will know, its one thing to know the different parts of a language - verbs and nouns, but quite another to put them together.

This great little book does just that, and does it logically with good clear examples, in an often under-studied field.

Syntax is usually left at the end when everyone has learnt all the other pieces and to put them together. However, this approach can mislead one to believe one understands how Hebrew and the language work.

This book teaches by example and shows carefully how a particular part of speech is utilised in the actual text.

It is cheap and is very useful.

I would have given it a five-star rating, but the text-quality is poor, and the Hebrew is sometimes difficult to read in the old-typewriter style of print.

All the Hebrew is translated.

Very Good Reference Book On Martial Arts Around The World

Although the information provided in this book is very brief, it does do a terrific job on giving you a really good yet basic overview on pretty much every martial art known to man throughout the world. Now I am quite sure that not every martial art was included in this book, I would be hard pressed not to agree with the statement that at least 90+% of them were included in this book.

The author provides you with some pretty amazing color and black and white photographs on glossy paper to really enhance their effect. Although this may not be a book that you can learn a particular technique from, it is definitely a book that you can learn something from.

One of the best books I have ever read on the numerous fighting arts practiced around the world. A great reference book.

In my more than 60 years of training in numerous martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Kenjutsu, Kendo, Boxing, Wrestling, Krav Maga, Combatives etc.) and having read and wrote reviews on hundreds of martial art and self-defense books, I have never came across a book quite like this one. This fantastic volume lists more fighting and combat systems than I have ever seen in any book in the past. The author obviously has done a lot of research to come up with so many different fighting arts from each section of the world. This book did amaze me and kept me turning the pages.

This 360 page slick 8 by 10 inch volume covers the fighting arts of India and South Asia, China and East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Japan and Okinawa, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Central Asia, and the Americas. Before reading this book I thought I knew something about most of the combative arts being practiced today; however, I was wrong. Many of the arts in this volume are obscure and unknown to most people in the world who practice the most common and popular martial art systems. Even though this book does not go into great detail on each of these arts; nevertheless, they do provide a brief overview of each system. This text is also full of great color photographs. Does this book have every known martial arts system in the world? No, but it comes as close as any book can to that goal. The Kenjutsu system I learned is the Kashima Shinden Jinkinshin Kage Ryu which is not listed in this book; however, just about every other fighting system is mentioned in this text.

In conclusion, this is a book every serious student of the martial arts should have in their own personal library as a reference source. A great book at a fantastic price. A real keeper.

Visual Smorgasbord of Martial Arts from Around the World

The first thing that stands out with Chris Crudelli's new book "The Way of the Warrior: Martial Arts and Fighting Styles From Around the World" is the stunning photographs throughout the entire volume of this coffee table sized visual smorgasbord of martial arts from around the world. It is fascinating to browse and marvel at the wonderful pictures that fill almost every page of this oversized 360 page tomb of martial art information and splendor.

This magnificent visual guide to the martial arts is divided into seven sections, with each section focusing on the indigenous and imported styles synonymous with a particular geographical region. These sections include: India and South Asia; China and East Asia; Southeast Asia and Oceania; Japan and Okinawa; Europe; Africa, Middle East and Central Asia; and finally The Americas. In these seven sections there are descriptions of more than 300 fighting styles. Included are the obvious well known martial arts such as Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, and Aikido. But also included are little know obscure arts like Aki Kiti, Ba Ji Quan, Mizongyi, Taekyon, Banshay, and many others. The book is truly a fascinating look at more martial art styles than most people ever realized existed. Pictures range from ancient drawings, old photographs, and modern photos of stunning displays of martial prowess with fascinating backdrops. There are action shots from competitions and martial art demonstrations as well as those from training sessions and ancient training halls and temples. I can't stress enough what a visual feast this book is for the martial art enthusiast.

The text includes descriptions of the various fighting styles as well as notes on key players in the arts history as well as modern masters. The book illustrates key weapons the various styles are known for and describes the main principles and theories behind the styles. Obviously, due to how the book is organized, the country and culture of each style is also provided. These descriptions are brief, but make for a very interesting overview of the arts to accompany the great photographs.

Scattered among the descriptions and colorful pictures are quotes that capture the spirit of the various arts and warriors who devised them and helped shape the styles into not only methods of fighting but for many a way of life. I was glad to see one of my favorite quotes from Karate Master Gichin Funakoshi, "The ultimate goal of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the perfection of the character of its participants."

This book is truly a work of art and a wealth of information. It could easily take a place on the coffee table of any martial artist, or a professional lobby or school front for anyone who practices the arts. And it is definitely a marvelous addition to any martial art library. I sincerely thank Chris Crudelli for putting such a book together. I highly recommend this for all martial artists and those who follow the warrior's path.
